Dependents

Wells Fargo offers a variety of benefits for your eligible dependents. It is important for you to know these eligibility requirements and make sure you enroll only eligible dependents. Please review the dependent eligibility requirements yearly as eligibility may have changed. See chapter 2 of the Benefits Book for details.

Who Is an Eligible Dependent?

For the medical, dental, and vision plans, eligible dependents generally include:

  • Dependents
    • Your spouse as defined by federal law
    • Your domestic partner or same-sex spouse
    • Your unmarried children or those of your spouse, domestic partner, or same-sex spouse (until their 19th birthday)
  • College-age dependents
Includes your unmarried children or those of your spouse, domestic partner, or same-sex spouse until their 24th birthday if they are a full-time student meeting the following requirements:
    • The child must reside permanently with you and be your, your spouse's, your domestic partner's, or your same-sex spouse's tax dependent.
    • The school must be a secondary or postsecondary educational institution offering a degree or certificate.
    • The institution must be licensed, certified, or accredited in the state in which it operates by the state's Board of Education (or similar governing body), or it must be federally accredited by the National Board of Education.
    • The child must have full-time status (full course load) as determined by the school.

See chapter 2 of the Benefits Book for complete eligibility requirements.

Eligibility Certification and Audits

  • Certification of newly enrolled dependents
If you add a new dependent to your benefits plans for the first time, you will also be asked to certify his or her eligibility online. The online certification process is quick and simple. After launching the Your Benefits tool, step-by-step instructions will guide you.
  • Certify your college-age student dependents
Find details about how to certify your college-age student dependents.

Audits and Reviews of Dependent Eligibility

Wells Fargo reserves the right to conduct audits and reviews of all dependent eligibility. If you fail to comply, misrepresent or omit information, or it is found that your dependent no longer meets the eligibility requirements, then your dependent's coverage will be terminated retroactively, you may be required to repay all costs incurred by any benefit plans, and it may be grounds for corrective action, including termination of your employment. Premiums will not be refunded and you may lose your right to continue coverage under COBRA.
