Lisa Born enjoys the challenge of being a female bank president in rural southern Minnesota, where customers are used to seeing men in that role.

Her career with Wells Fargo began in 1987 as a business banking assistant in Owatonna, Minn. When the timing seemed right, Lisa discussed with her manager how to develop in her role. She also became involved with the community, joining the Owatonna Business and Professional Women’s Organization.

Lisa was accepted for the business banking program in 1993. That one-year opportunity allowed her to visit and observe other areas of Wells Fargo – marketing, finance and audit – up close. She also studied the credit-review process and went through the College of Credit program. As her view sharpened as to how sales and service go hand in hand, she talked with her manager, again, about what further steps she could take to become a business banker. She also got input from others.

By 1994 Lisa was a business banking officer – a role she filled for four years. The following five years were spent as store manager in Owatonna. Eventually, the opportunity opened up to become bank president in Dodge Center, Minn. It meant a move, but she could still remain in rural Minnesota where she likes to live. She welcomed the new opportunity to focus, once again, on combining business banking and retail in her store.

“There’s no question that Wells Fargo has a lot of opportunity,” Lisa said. “Look for your strengths and where you can feel good about what you do every day.”
