Formal Review Process

You will receive feedback on an ongoing basis throughout the performance cycle. On an annual basis you will receive a formal review. Once a performance review meeting has been scheduled, prepare notes and questions. Some managers provide a copy of the formal review (paper or electronic format) prior to the actual meeting. Some managers may ask you to complete a self-assessment that is reflected in their review.

There should be no surprises during this review. Comments made should have already been mentioned to you during ongoing feedback throughout the performance year.

Your input during this one-on-one meeting with your manager is important. One item to discuss would be how you would summarize your performance based on the feedback you've received. You may also describe any lessons learned during this review period that can be applied to future projects or desired career goals.

After your formal review you and your manager will determine the next performance year's objectives and targets, as well as discussing any development opportunities (e.g. additional training, etc.).
