How to Create Your Plan

In developing your potential, it’s your responsibility to set goals that help you grow personally and professionally. Development planning is a shared responsibility between you, your manager and Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo provides an open and supportive environment, development tools, and learning opportunities.

Wells Fargo Success Profiles define what success looks like in seven key roles: leading, managing, selling, serving, consulting, managing projects and leveraging technology. You are responsible for assessing your competency levels and developing a plan with your manager to strengthen your current job performance and prepare for new opportunities.

Development can be accomplished in many settings, and we believe that some of the best development comes from performing well in your job. When development outside of the job is appropriate, your development options are more varied than just going to a training course. Additional options include:

  • Cross-functional projects/task forces
  • Special projects with corporate visibility
  • Job enrichment – Adding components to your current job
  • Job rotations – Moving through different jobs in one area/business
  • Job sharing
  • Job shadowing
  • Involvement with employee committees
  • Involvement with community organizations
  • Professional organizations/associations
  • Mentoring – As a mentor or protégé
  • Self-assessment tools
  • Computer-based learning
  • Instructor-led courses and workshops
  • Tuition-reimbursed college and university courses

This sample action plan shows how to identify competencies to be developed and development opportunities, as well as how to estimate potential costs, measurement tools and timelines.
