Pay for Performance

Merit Increases
In Wells Fargo, you receive a merit increase based on your performance level over the past year and your position in the pay range.

Pay Range
The middle of each pay range is regarded as competitive pay for a team member who is competently performing the job. Team members who are lower in the pay range and performing competently, may receive a greater merit increase than a team member who is also performing competently, but is well over the mid point or "market reference point" of the job's pay range.

How Your Pay Range is Determined
The pay range for each job in Wells Fargo is determined through a process called Market Pricing. Market Pricing allows Wells Fargo to determine competitive rates of pay by comparing our jobs with the external market for similar jobs in the geographies we operate. Every year, we conduct this analysis to ensure we maintain competitiveness. Because we have team members in different parts of the United States, we determine different rates of pay for the same job in different geographies (area differential pay). Wells Fargo has six different "area differential" rates across the markets we operate in. To find the pay range for a job, consult the Job Families section.

Variable Pay
Some team members are also eligible for "variable pay". This makes a portion of the pay you receive dependent on achieving specific business targets or objectives. This may take the form of commissions, bonuses or other incentives.
